If you are buying a rare promo, a single older item, or a domestic-only product, a proxy can be worth it
One other subtle strength here is the degree of control you can have over exactly when cards are milled, and how many (assuming you have painlands or other unrestricted self-damage sources)
The latter ability only works with Deserts, of course, but there are plenty of those to choose from, and the synergy with Dune Chanter (more on that later) is as powerful as it is obvious
