William Henry Munch was born in Puslinch, Ontario. He was a member of the Bretheren Church and worked as a wood carver. In November 1917 he was drafted into the CEF. Proceeding to England in February 1918 he then went to France with the 116th Battalion in August. On 29 September he was initially reported as missing, and then as a prisoner of war.
